Stock cabinets come in fixed sizes off a shelf and are the fastest and cheapest. Semi-custom are made to order in standard increments with real choice of door, wood and finish, and this is where most Las Vegas kitchens land. Custom is built to your measurements with no size constraints, which is what unusual layouts, ceiling-height runs and inset doors require. The honest test is whether your room fits standard increments, not how much you want to spend.
What you are actually buying at each tier
Stock is inventory: fixed widths, a short list of finishes, available now. Semi-custom is manufacturing: the same standard increments, usually three inches, but built for your order with a genuine range of doors, woods and finishes. Custom is joinery: the box is made to the dimension your room needs, so a 34 and a half inch gap gets a 34 and a half inch cabinet instead of a 33 inch cabinet and a filler strip.
The filler strip test
This is the quickest way to tell which tier your kitchen needs. Standard cabinets come in three inch increments, and the gaps left over get covered with filler strips. One or two narrow fillers in sensible places are normal and nobody notices. If a layout needs several, or a wide one lands somewhere prominent like beside the range or at the end of an island, the room is telling you it does not fit standard sizing.
Where each tier makes sense in this valley
A 2000s production home in Enterprise, Aliante or Mountain’s Edge was built to standard dimensions, so semi-custom usually drops in cleanly and the money is better spent on plywood boxes and a good finish than on custom sizing you do not need. Older homes and semi-custom builds, and anything with radius walls, angled ceilings or a genuinely oversized island, tend to need custom, because the room was never square to begin with.
Lead time is part of the decision
Stock is available immediately. Semi-custom typically runs several weeks from order to delivery. Custom runs longer again, because the boxes are being built rather than picked. That matters if you are working to a date, and it is why the honest sequence is design first, order second, and schedule installation only once everything has arrived and been inspected.

Is semi-custom good enough for a nice kitchen?
For most homes in the valley, yes. Semi-custom with plywood boxes, a quality door and a proper finish outperforms cheap custom every time. Custom earns its price when the room needs sizing that standards cannot deliver.
Are stock cabinets ever the right answer?
Yes, for a rental, a flip, a laundry or a garage, where budget and speed matter more than longevity. We will say so rather than sell you something the property does not need.
Can I mix tiers in one project?
Commonly, yes. A semi-custom kitchen with two or three custom pieces where the room demands them, an odd-width cabinet or a fitted island, is often the most sensible use of the budget.
How do I know if my layout fits standard sizes?
You will not know from a tape measure alone. The in-home measure and the written estimate settle it, and both are free before you commit to anything.
