Most Las Vegas kitchens are one of four layouts: galley, L-shape, U-shape, or L-shape with an island, which is the dominant plan in homes built from the late 1990s onward. The layout decisions that matter most are clearance between opposing runs, at least 42 inches for one cook and 48 inches where two people work, and keeping the sink, range and refrigerator within a workable triangle rather than strung along one wall.
The four layouts, and which houses have them
Galley puts two parallel runs either side of a walkway, and it is common in older Spring Valley, Paradise and North Las Vegas homes. L-shape wraps two adjacent walls and suits smaller open plans. U-shape wraps three and gives the most run per square foot. L-shape plus island is what the valley built from the late 1990s onward, and it is the plan most of our work touches, because those islands were sized for the drawing rather than for how the family actually cooks.
Clearances are what make a kitchen feel right
The single most common complaint we hear about a builder kitchen is not the finish, it is that two people cannot be in it. Allow at least 42 inches between opposing runs for one cook, and 48 where two people pass or where a dishwasher door and an oven door can open toward each other. Islands need the same treatment on every side people walk. This is measured, not eyeballed, and it is why the design comes before the order.
Opening the wall is not always the answer
Removing a half wall or a bulkhead often transforms a 2000s plan, and sometimes it changes nothing except the budget. Before anything comes out, the design should show what the room gains. Occasionally the honest answer is that the wall is doing useful work, hiding a duct, carrying load, or giving you the run of uppers you would otherwise lose, and the better move is to rework the cabinetry instead.
Storage beats square footage
A smaller kitchen with drawer bases, a full-height pantry and uppers to the ceiling holds more, and works better, than a larger kitchen full of deep door cabinets you have to kneel down to reach into. If the budget is finite, spend it on drawers rather than on moving plumbing. That is the change people notice every single day.

Questions, answered.
How much clearance do I need around a kitchen island?
Plan on at least 42 inches on every side people walk, and 48 inches on any side where two people pass or where an appliance door opens into the aisle.
Is the work triangle still relevant?
As a sanity check, yes. Sink, range and refrigerator should form a comfortable triangle without long walks or crossing traffic. In an island kitchen it often becomes zones rather than a strict triangle, but the principle holds.
Can I change my layout without moving plumbing?
Often, yes, and it is far cheaper. Reworking cabinetry, resizing the island and taking uppers to the ceiling changes how a kitchen works without touching the rough-ins. The 3D design shows you what is possible before anything is committed.
Which layout adds the most value?
The one that suits the house. An island forced into a room that cannot take the clearances reads as a mistake to any buyer walking through it.
